It powered right up when I tested it but when I dug in I was a little surprised. Battery is of course dead as a door nail but I was hoping I could find a replacement or make something of my own if I can figure out how without blowing anything up. One of the latches on the lid is broken but I *may* be able to fix that. Sure enough the machine is in great condition considering it's 20 years old, it's got a couple scuffs and scratches but what laptop doesn't. So after waiting what seemed like forever due to my excitement, it came in the mail today. I have two of those coming in the mail but they may not get used, more on that later. I wanted to go bigger but I have no idea what this motherboard supports so I figured that was safe. I wasn't concerned, because he did show that it would POST and go into the BIOS configuration and my first move was going to be install a 540mb drive anyway. It's got a 25mhz 486SX and 8mb of RAM, and the seller said it had an 80mb hard drive but was ambiguous about whether the drive worked. BUT I Ended up finding this (apparently pretty rare) DECpc 425se in working condition on eBay for what I think was a relatively reasonable price. Problem is most of the PCs that fit my specifications either had no onboard mouse or one of those little thumbsticks that I can't stand, or were ridiculously expensive. Not too powerful but hopefully still able to play some games and confuse my friends. Anyway I began my search a little while back, I wanted a laptop with a 486 or maybe a lower end Pentium as something to play with. My first IBM-compatible PC was a Packard Bell 386 system if I remember correctly, running DOS and later Windows 3.1. I am pushing DOSBox to the limit with a Win3.1 install and dos32a, etc but it's not the same. Hopefully I can find some answers here and I'd be glad to help anyone else if I have the ability. That and pretty much everyone I know just looks at me like I'm crazy when I talk about computers, let alone something like this. I thought I'd stop by here because it seems to be fairly active and I was worried this was a lost hobby. Hi everyone I'm new here but have been interested in getting ahold of an older computer for a while, mostly to play old DOS/Win3.1 or maybe Win9x games on real hardware.
